Bill Summary

Tenants’ assertion; rent escrow. Incorporates sections from the Virginia Residential Landlord Act into the Virginia Landlord Tenant Law in situations where the tenant asserts that adverse conditions exist on the leased premises, including a fire hazard or a serious threat to the life, health or safety of occupants. The bill provides for rent to be placed in an escrow account before the judge determines the parties’ responsibilities. This bill is recommended by the Virginia Housing Commission.
